Program Authors

In 1992, four colleagues contributed their expertise and combined experiences in the development of the original curriculum, titled "Community Reclamation Project's Parent Training Program: A Gang and Drug Prevention Model."

Jerry Tello contributed to the Cultural/Spiritual Component Area and Ronald Johnson contributed to the Rites of Passage Component Area. Marilyn Marigna was responsible for the information included in the Community Involvement Component and for general curriculum development. Dr. Marilyn Steele was responsible for curriculum development, contributed the information for the Enhancing Relationship and Positive Discipline Component Areas, and developed both the parent and facilitator materials.

Based upon pilot results, Dr. Steele in 1994 revised, restructured and renamed the curriculum. After 17 years, successfully impacting 50,000 parents in the United States, the program has been updated, reformatted, restructured, and several topic areas expanded. Continuing to further emphasize the curriculum as a "strength-based" program, it has been renamed Strengthening Multi-Ethnic Families and Communities: A Parent Program Promoting Peace.
